The return support box needs to serve both when the customer receives the goods and sends them back. If the first opening tears the closure area, the customer will have to find another packaging. Therefore, the opening path and the closing path need to be tested consecutively on the same sample.
Determine the steps for receiving and returning goods
Determine whether customers need to open by hand or need tools, what parts to keep for return, and how to place the product in the box. From there, choose the appropriate tear line, glue strip or locking mechanism.
Check both the first and last closures
| Phase | Something to try |
|---|---|
| First delivery | The glued area is firmly held, do not open the lid |
| Open goods | The tear line is active, does not tear the closure area |
| Refund | The customer found the closing strip, the lid still fits and seals |
Try the box containing the goods and go through the expected delivery process. After opening, check that the closed area is intact and easy to find. The adhesive strip for returns needs to be protected to avoid damage and tearing.
Design instructions that are short and precise
Instructions should be short and in the correct order: open, save needed portion, restock, close and apply new label. Reserve a flat area for the label; Handle old delivery codes according to the shipping unit's procedures.
Coat holders and bottle holders may require different resetting. With bottles, customers need to keep and reuse the protective tray; an easy-to-open tear is not enough to guarantee a return.
Evaluate the costs of both turns
Compare the increase in box cost with the return rate, number of new boxes required and actual processing effort. If you have few refunds, you need to see if this feature fits your budget.
Can this box be called reusable?
Should describe the specific function of being able to close for returns. This capability does not by itself demonstrate that the box meets the multi-round reuse model or the corresponding legal requirements.
