PPWR is Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste. Businesses shipping into the EU should determine the type of packaging, the destination market and the party in charge of compliance before changing designs or adding documents.
Read the roadmap according to each request
PPWR applies from August 12, 2026, but the requirements have their own roadmap. All future criteria should not be considered mandatory immediately. Need to compare relevant provisions in PPWR text.
Make a packaging list according to configuration
Catalog boxes, bags, trays, shipping containers and accessories. Record material code, weight, coating and usage. The packaging is mainly made of paper but still has other components that need to be identified.

Work with EU customers before exchanging models
Discuss with EU guests about the role of each party, documents needed to be provided and application schedule. Requirements may differ between selling empty containers and selling packaged products. The compliance contact needs to confirm the specific case.
For example, a customer purchasing boxes for packaging in the EU and a customer importing finished products may need different sets of information. A general checklist should not be used that ignores how the packaging is brought to market.
Determine the basis before declaring compliance
The paper certificate only partially explains the ingredients, but does not prove that the packaging meets PPWR. Before declaring compliance, it is necessary to check the applicable specifications and requirements.
